Teaching Phonics in Early Years

‘Teaching Phonics in Early Years’ workshop was conducted by Ms Sonali G from NPS Quality Assurance, at NPS Rajajinagar for the kindergarten teachers of NPS. Phonics technical vocabulary, teaching strategies and other age appropriate activities were introduced and reinforced. The learning and sharing, the question-answer sessions were interactive and proved to be useful. The workshop dealt with challenges of phonological and phonemic awareness, levels of manipulation of sounds in language, phases of teaching phonics for early learners, tips for speaking and listening activities, multisensory devices, teaching skills of blending and segmenting, pedagogical knowledge, stages of spelling knowledge, effective lesson planning and differentiation while teaching phonics.

The workshop aimed to give ample choices to the teachers to replace routine teaching methods with effective teaching methods and differentiated instructions which are the need of the hour.
