SEWA –Social Empowerment through Work Education and Action

SEWA aims to develop students into active citizens and compassionate humans through experiential learning. It takes learning beyond the classroom, beyond the boundaries of the school – building bridges with the authentic and real world in meaningful and positive ways. Students of Grade 10 were actively involved in this program, with several activities based on Youth and Integration:

  • Students of 10B started SEWA with an appreciation brunch for the support staff of the school. The class was divided into six groups and each decided to bring one food item from Karnataka. They invited the support staff for a breakfast get-together and thanked them for their hard work in keeping a clean and hygienic ambience in the school. This initiative left the support staff extremely touched and appreciated.
  • Rotarian Mr. Ramanan spoke to students on organ donation and highlighted its importance. He gave statistics on the number of deaths in India every day and how organs are disused because of a lack of awareness. The interactive session encouraged students to spread awareness on organ donation.
  • Students visited a slum in Basaveshwarnagar, Bangalore as part of SEWA programme. They distributed clothes under the aegis of I-Care Foundation, an NGO. Later the women participated in a self-confidence building initiative planned by the students. Keepsakes in the form of photographs were also handed over. The event was reported in Vijaya Vaani.
