NO TOBACCO DAY

One third of the world’s adult population smokes tobacco. An alarming 9.6% of adolescents in India use tobacco. Bangalore has one of the highest smoking rates in the country! Students of Grade 10 did their bit to enlighten and educate their peers on the pitfalls of smoking on both body and mind, during the morning assembly. Informative speeches, skits based on real-life situations and a self-composed song rendered by the choir amply illustrated the ill-effects of this scourge. A mock interview with the Chairman of the World Health Organisation highlighted the urgency to curb the menace of tobacco. A poem and a pledge brought hope to the future, with students taking an oath to keep away from smoking and encourage others to abstain from the same.
