Guest Session - Dr Soumya Ramani

A vibrant and engaging session was conducted at National Public School, Rajajinagar on 5th October 2023 for the Kindergarten students by Dr Soumya Ramani, Consultant Ophthalmologist at Ramaiah Medical College and Hospitals, Bengaluru. The session aimed at fostering a sense of ‘Self-awareness and Safety’, educating children about their bodies and empowering them with knowledge on personal safety. Dr Ramani skilfully commenced the session by emphasizing the idea that our bodies are precious gifts given by God. Utilizing the power of visuals, she incorporated videos featuring cartoon characters to explain the crucial topic of ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’. This innovative approach captured the attention of the children, making the learning experience both enjoyable and educational. The use of age-appropriate content ensured that the information was not only comprehensible but also related to the young audience. One of the key takeaways from the session was encouraging students to express their discomfort. She emphasized the power of a loud scream when confronted with situations that made them feel uneasy or awkward, providing a simple yet effective tool for self-protection. The Principal, Ms. Mini Jayan, asked reflective questions to the students and extended the topic by giving valuable tips. The atmosphere throughout the session was one of enthusiastic participation and enlightenment. It contributed significantly to creating a safe and informed environment for our young learners.
