2018 - 2019

State Level Basketball Camp

Karnataka Basketball Association organised U-13 Basketball tournament in October. More than a hundred teams from all over Karnataka participated. Thirty players were shortlisted to attend a training camp for selections to the State team.

Three of our students played their way into the camp – Tisha, Priyanka B and Amogha V Prasad.

Mihir Avalakki wins Hyderabad Race

14-year-old Bangalorean, Mihir S Avalakki (studying in 9th Grade at National Public School, Rajajinagar, Bangalore), driving for birelArt India, finished as the Winner, in the Round 2 of FMSCI Rotax Max National Karting Championship 2018 (Junior Category), at Chicane Circuit, Hyderabad on 16th September 2018, in his second year of Karting.

Being the fastest, he earned P1 position in the qualifying. After finishing P2 in Heat 1 and P4 in Heat 2, he started at P2 in pre-finals and moved to P1 in the very first corner itself and held on to the same till the end of pre-finals.

Finals was a closely fought battle where Mihir started at P1 and held on to the position, for a nail-biting finish. He is currently at placed Second in the Overall Championship for 2018.

A bit of a background on Mihir, who was always passionate about driving, but started his professional racing a year back where he finished the 2017 FMSCI Rotax Max Championship at a promising 6th place, being a rookie.

Mihir has also got a great International exposure where he has represented birelArt India at the EasyKart Championship in Italy, Europe. He has raced in six different International Racing Circuits in Italy and is currently placed at Seventh in the Championship among 32 total drivers. This International exposure has helped him to raise his level of racing in India, which was evident in his Win in the Round 2 of the Indian FMSCI Rotax Max Championship.

Prior to this, Mihir was the National Champion in the FMSCI National 4 Stroke Karting Championship 2017, which earned him a free ticket to the FMSCI Rotax Max Championship for 2017.

CBSE Cluster VIII Basketball Tournament 2018

Our U-17 Boys’ and Girls’ teams took part in the CBSE Cluster VIII Basketball Tournament 2018, held between 13th and 17th September 2018 at Sri Kumaran Children’s Home, Bengaluru. A total of 150 schools from all over Bengaluru took part in the tournament.

The U-17 Boys won the 2nd Runners-up position. The U-17 Girls took the Winner’s spot, qualifying to represent the State at the CBSE Nationals (Girls) Basketball Tournament to be held in Agra during the month of November 2018. Sanjana P was adjudged ‘Best Player of the Tournament’.

State Level Basketball Camp

Out of the many students who exhibited their basketball skills during the National level Inter school tournament held in the 2nd week of August, 40 players were selected to attend a State-level camp at Kanteerava Stadium, beginning 27th Aug 2018. Three of our students have made it to the camp, vying for selections to the State team. Congratulations and best wishes to Ishika Jindal, Sanjana P and Tanisha Wodeyar!!

10th James Naismith Cup 2018

More Hoops to Conquer!!
The 10th edition of James Naismith Cup 2018 was held between 30th Aug and 2nd Sept 2018 in Mangalore. The four teams of U-16 and U-18 Boys and Girls Basketball team dashed their way to victory, clinching the title in all four categories, outplaying over 55 participating teams. Adding an additional feather to an illustrious cap was the coveted Most Valuable Player award bagged by Yashas A B (U-16)!!

The U-13 Boys team emerged winners of the Basketball Tournament held as part of Sri Thyagarajan Memorial Sports Fest 2018. The event was held on Aug 10th and 11th at Daffodils English School, Bengaluru.

The young hoopsters of NPS Rajajinagar have, indeed no limits, as they sizzled through to the finals in the National level Inter School Basketball Tournament held at Soundarya School, Bangalore.

Four days, 2 league matches and a semi-final later, both the U-14 Girls and the U-16 Boys had played their way into the finals. While the girls won the Runners-up position, the boys were handed the Sizzlers Cup for their winning match against Greenwood High International School!

Kudos!!! Both teams of U-14 boys and girls emerged winners in their respective categories.

Göteborg Basketball Festival 2018

The young U-13 teams of girls and boys from National Public School, Rajajinagar, participated in the Gothenberg Basketball Festival 2018 – one of Europe’s largest youth tournaments in basketball - this year too. The girls’ team proved that winning is a habit that they have cultivated, by their improved performance this year – winners in their category!

The girls were pitted against 52 other teams from 4 different countries. They made it to the play-offs by reaching the 3rd position in their group. Once there, they won every match and knocked out their opponents to reach the semi-final. They claimed the top spot by winning the final game with a close score of 28-27 in their favour, thus bringing home the trophy.

A combination of team work, commitment and practice, coupled with training by a dedicated coach brought laurels to themselves and the school.

2017 - 2018

Akshan Rao

Basketball

Based on his excellent performance in the Under 19 and Under 16 KSBA tourneys, Akshan was selected for the Karnataka State Under 16 team. He scored over 117 points and was the highest scorer for Karnataka in the Nationals at Hyderabad. On the basis of his fine performance, Akshan was selected for the India Under 16 probables camp at Sports Authority of India, Aurangabad.

Cricket

Vijay Merchant Trophy in Hyderabad - 1st to 27th December 2017. 3 superb catches and a good 32 by Akshan, helped Karnataka salvage a draw against Andhra Pradesh. A brilliant 103 against a strong Hyderabad side under dire circumstances with twelve 4's. A superb 114 with 18 fours, held the side together and ensured the vital first innings lead against Tamil Nadu. Has amassed 1650 runs this season so far with 6 tons!

Dheemanth Mahesh

National Skating Championship 2017-18

Dheemanth Mahesh of Grade 3D has notched up the following laurels at the III Sub Junior Skating National Championship 2017-18 held at Haryana between 1-3 Dec 2017 in Quad Skates (U-10):

  • I Place in 300 mts
  • I Place in 500 mts

He has also won a gold medal in the U-10 category in Trivandrum, conducted by Skating Federation of India and secured the 1st place in Pupils Olympic Association India.

Hoopster Champs – National Basketball Championship 2017

Saurav B S, Adarsh M Alva and Atmita B Raju of National Public School Rajajinagar managed to ‘shoot’ their way into the 44th Sub-Junior Nationals Basketball Championship 2017. The Nationals was held in Didwana Rajasthan from October 8-14, 2017.

CBSE Clusters VIII Basketball Tournament 2017-18

CBSE South Zone Cluster VIII Basketball tournament (2017-18) was conducted in Akash International School, Dasarahalli. The Under-19 boys and Under-17 girls of National Public School Rajajinagar emerged the winners in their respective categories. They will be representing the State of Karnataka for the CBSE Nationals to be held in Delhi.

The Under 19 boys beat Presidency School in the semi-finals and Delhi Public School East in the finals. The girls defeated CMR National Public School in the semi-finals and Sri Kumarans Children’s Home in the finals.

Our outstanding students Vikas Vasu and Sanjana Murthy were adjudged Best Player in their respective categories.

CBSE National Championships held at JBM Global School (Noida)

Our U-17 Girls brought home the bronze medal at the National Championships held between 24th and 26th November 2017.

Ashok Bhanda

National Level Coach for the Karnataka Basketball Team

Mr. Ashok Bhanda, Physical Education Department was selected as the National Level Coach for the Karnataka Basketball Team. He has the distinction of being the youngest coach at the National level.

Saanvi S Rao

Winning strokes – the swimming champ

Saanvi S Rao of National Public School, Rajajinagar participated in CBSE South Zone Swimming meet held in Nagpur and bagged a gold medal in 100m breast stroke (U 14) and a silver in 50m breast stroke. She, thus qualified to participate in the Nationals held in Haryana where participants from CBSE schools from all over India and abroad competed. Saanvi did us proud by winning a gold medal in 50m breast stroke and a silver medal in 100m breast stroke. Keep up the ‘winning strokes’ Saanvi!

India Sub junior Men’s National Hockey Championship

Rushil Mendu Madhusudhan, Grade 6 qualified for India Sub junior Men’s National Hockey Championship (A-Division) 2018. He attended the Karnataka Hockey coaching Camp held at Field Marshal K.M Cariappa Hockey Arena, Bangalore on 18th Dec 2017.

40 players from all over Karnataka were selected for the camp. Vikas G Vasu, Grade XII has achieved the distinction of making it to the top 16!!
