Exploring Synthetic Biology

Susmit Roy and his team from IISC conducted a session on synthetic biology, emphasizing the use of computational tools to visualize and simulate key compounds in the human body.

During the session, Susmit who is also a distinguished alumnus of National Public School, Rajajinagar, introduced the students to the fundamentals of synthetic biology, explaining the integration of biology with computational techniques. He demonstrated how these tools can model and simulate biological compounds, enhancing understanding of their functions and applications.

The session also included a hands-on experiment where students learned to extract DNA from papaya. This practical demonstration allowed students to observe the procedures involved in molecular biology, including the use of essential chemicals in DNA extraction. The exercise provided a tangible experience of the concepts discussed during the lecture.

National Public School, Rajajinagar has a strong tradition of nurturing academically driven students. Susmit Roy's return as a speaker was a testament to this legacy. He was also the school topper from Grade 12 for the academic year 2023-24. His passion and expertise in synthetic biology led to enthusiastic participation and engagement throughout the session.
